It's time to focus on other sports

I watched Saina Nehwal win the Women's Final of Indian Open Grand Prix bandminton on DD Sports. She was brilliant and displayed excellent net play to outclass the Malaysian opponent. I guess fitness also played a big role as her Malaysian opponent progressively became slow in her reflexes and play.

After the match I scanned other News and Sports channel but to my dismay found out that no other channel mentioned anything about her win. Most of news channels, even the supposedly upmarket ones, displayed match scores for Zim v/s India (T20) but none cared to report this important victory for Indian Sports. Channels which host debate on "Cricket v/s Other Sports" prominently on their prime time did not even have one liner in their scrolling tickers.

It's time we gave other sports its due and celebrate their wins as we celebrate our cricketing victories.
